Visit to Intech

Today, on the way down to the flat, we went to Intech Hands On Science Museum and Planetarium in Winchester.

We had been recommended the place but even so we were blown away by it. It's well worth a visit and here's why:

1. Hands on
It really is hands on; for small kids, big kids, parents and grandparents (and believe me they were all there on this rainy school holiday day).

2. Space
There is a huge amount of space in the building as a whole, between the exhibits and just generally. This makes it inviting, never cramped and much more relaxed that many museums we have visited.

3. Planetarium
For a mere extra £2.20 you get to see a 30 minute show of your choice (there were four on offer today). We choose "journey through the stars" which literally took us on an awe inspiring experience through the solar system, milky way and beyond.

4. Cafe
I hate hate hate being over charged for food and drink at museums, a personal bug bear; and one that was not a problem at Intech. Of course prices were higher than at asda, but the quality was good and prices very reasonable.

5. Exhibits
I have never seem such a wide range of subjects and scientific discoveries in one place, and in a really exciting and engaging way.
From balancing balls on air

To playing with magnets and how it changes movements of metal pendulums

To seeing a massive bowling ball newtons cradle in action

To looking through a model of a human eye and drawing the image you see

To looking out through the roof with a periscope.

To sending parachutes into the roof.

To making windmills with knex

To learning about centrifugal forces

Intech is truly a MUST visit if you are ever anywhere near, we will be returning!
